State negotiating whether oil terminal can build next to Mid-Barataria diversion

Can a proposed $2.5 billion, 20-million-barrel crude oil export terminal on the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish coexist with Louisiana’s planned $1.4 billion Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion next door?

The state Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority is negotiating an agreement with the Plaquemines Port and Harbor Terminal District and Plaquemines Liquid Terminal LLC that could declare the project to be “consistent” with the state’s coastal master plan if the project can show it will not interfere with the diversion or adversely affect adjacent wetlands.
