Forum Tuesday to focus on how community can adapt as Gulf encroaches

A forum Tuesday at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux will focus on how the community can adapt as seas rise and wetlands continue to erode.

The America’s Wetland Foundation will host the Coastal Communities Adaptation Roundtable. Open to the public, it’s scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to noon in the Student Union’s Bollinger Suite.

“Today’s news is full of gloom and doom tied to sea-level rise projections,” Val Marmillion, a Houma native and managing director of the America’s Wetland Foundation, said in a news release. “In all of the political hand wringing over climate change, we seem to have lost sight of the way to untangle this mess. The magnitude of the issue is hard to digest for many who live in coastal Louisiana as communities, cultures, and ways of life stand to be disrupted and lost.”
